It's the end of October and here at Standard Solar we're looking forward to a busy final quarter of the year. This includes keeping our eyes on key state policies including the critical community solar legislation in Pennsylvania that could boost that market exponentially; speaking out about how important it is that utilities, developers and third-party offtakers collaborate and find common ground; and sharing our expertise on tackling engineering challenges like improving the performance of ground-mounted solar arrays. We're also growing our top-notch team of experts as we continue to rapidly scale our business. This month we welcome industry veteran Michael Streams as our new Chief Development Officer and newest member of the company’s executive team.
This month’s newsletter features news on these topics and more, providing useful information and resources from our partners and company experts.

Pennsylvania Has Opportunity To Kickstart Community Solar—
And Its Economy
New legislation to enable community solar programs in Pennsylvania is an opportunity that will create thousands of jobs and billions in economic development dollars to come to the state. Our own Tony Clifford shares his views on why legislators would be wise to pass the bills as a way to jumpstart the commonwealth’s economy.
Leading PV experts from C2 Energy, Entersolar, Pure Power Engineering, SolarEdge, Standard Solar and Sunvest Solar participated in a roundtable discussion on safety, product & production, technical design, bankability, O&M and partnerships in the commercial renewables industry as part of last week's North America Smart Energy Week conference.
Understanding Limitations Towards the Levelized Costs of Trackers
Standard Solar engineers Linda Chitayapuntagul and Ian Kash dive into examining the levelized costs of owning a Single-Axis Tracker system in areas across the United States. The team also evaluated situations and trends that can significantly increase cost and render the increased production gain from trackers as negligible.
Linda and Ian presented this poster at this year's SPI 2020 in order to provide a clearer baseline for financially positive tracker implementation, saving time, money and effort.
Why New Mexico Community Solar, Utilities Should Be Working Together Not Fighting
Although New Mexico currently does not allow community solar, developers experienced in community projects say that utility cooperation is a constant battle and key if the state wants a success story. In a recent interview by New Project Media, our President & CEO Scott Wiater shares his belief that community solar is the next natural evolution for the industry, as it gives the chance to offer solar to even more customers, making it appealing to many developers. However, the future of community solar lies in a mutual understanding between utilities, developers and third-party offtakers.
