Have A Great Holiday Season — And We’ll See You In The New Year
As we celebrate the festive holiday season with joy and thankfulness for our success during a challenging year, we look forward to 2021 with great hope and anticipation. In our final newsletter of 2020, we pay tribute to our team’s support of the Manna Food Center and our Wallingford, Vermont, brownfield project and examine the importance of onsite corporate solar in moving the world closer to a clean energy revolution.
Finally, we asked regional leaders to tell us what issues they believe will face them in 2021, and we want to hear from you: What should the Biden Administration’s first priority be when it comes to clean energy policy? Let your voices be heard – we’ll share the results in our January newsletter.
Stay safe and happy holidays – we’ll see you in the New Year!

Why Should Corporations Choose Onsite Solar? Meaningful Savings, Grid Stabilization And Conflict Reduction
Should corporations build their solar array onsite or connect with a large utility-scale project offsite?
While it’s encouraging to see the use of solar energy and other renewables under any circumstances, there are solid arguments to be made about why the better investment may be onsite solar instead.
Land previously occupied by a gravel pit and hot-mix asphalt plant is now producing 3,291,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually in Wallingford, Vermont, providing clean energy to Vermont’s electric utilities under the state’s Standard Offer Program.
Completed and commissioned in January with our partners MHG Solar and Positive Energy NY LLC, the 9,018 solar panel ground-mount array is projected to produce 3,291,000 kilowatt hours of electricity in its first year. The estimated carbon offset is equivalent to the CO2 emissions from 406 homes’ electricity use for one year and 296,750,995 smartphones charged.
Each year on Giving Tuesday, the Standard Solar team unites to provide food donations to the Manna Food Center in Montgomery County, Maryland. Manna's mission is to eliminate hunger through food distribution, education and advocacy. The organization distributes approximately 12,000 pounds of food daily.
Despite donation logistics made more challenging by COVID-19, our team persevered. We are proud to have carried on our tradition and look forward to continuing to support this important cause and organization.
In the most recent edition of RE:NEW – Standard Solar's Quarterly digital magazine, we asked the directors of the leading regional solar and solar + storage advocacy organizations what keeps them up at night.
Read what they had to say and how they are helping solve these sticky issues.
In lieu of the traditional in-person job fair, this year's Solar Focus conference featured an educational track directed at students and young professionals interested in a career in the solar industry. Current students and graduates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) were able to attend for free, thanks to sponsoring companies like Standard Solar. More than two dozen students signed up and participated in sessions featuring HR professionals, CEOs and HBCU graduates.
Topics included strategies to landing a job in solar, types of solar careers and earning potential, as well as how to use your career to advance equity in energy. With the help of member companies like Standard Solar, the Chesapeake Solar & Storage Association (CHESSA) will continue to partner with the Maryland NAACP to engage students and young professionals of color in 2021 through additional educational initiatives.
